Welcome to The Arts Society Birmingham Evening (Known as TASBE)

Our Society

Since being established in 2014 TASBE has brought together like-minded people to enjoy evening talks on all aspects of art from painting and sculpture to music and dance. It is affiliated to The Arts Society, a leading arts education charity, and so draws upon its range of accredited speakers who are experts in their field.

We meet at the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre at King Edward VI Schools in Edgbaston. Our talks, which last an hour, are generally on the third Thursday of the month and begin at 7pm with doors opening at 6.30pm so members can enjoy a complimentary drink and chat beforehand.

Our Lectures

Our lectures are given by renowned experts who share their knowledge and expertise in a way that is both stimulating and entertaining. There are nine lectures during the year which with complimentary drink beforehand and membership of The Arts Society are included as part of our membership at a cost of £70 for a full calendar year. Non members/guests may attend an individual lecture for just £10.

Bitesize

In addition to the monthly talks TASBE organises a Bitesize programme of visits for small groups to local places of interest, many of which are not open to the general public. Recent Bitesize events have ranged from guided tours of cathedrals and art exhibitions, to trips to old factories. Visits to ballet shows, a guided walk, and the odd country house or two were also fitted into the eclectic programme.

Most Bitesize events incorporate refreshments and some a full lunch or afternoon tea.

TASBE from time to time also arranges social events and the Christmas Lunch with a light hearted talk is fast becoming an annual tradition.

The Arts Society

The Arts Society is a network of over 80,000 people worldwide, with c330 affiliated societies like ours in the UK - brought together through a shared curiosity for the arts and our artistic heritage. The Arts Society offers enjoyable opportunities to discover and support the arts of yesterday, today and tomorrow, wherever you are. Our events provide welcoming places – locally, nationally and globally – to hear excellent lecturers share their specialist knowledge about the arts.

All members of TASBE receive the quarterly Arts Society Magazine packed with exclusive features, interviews, news and opinions from the Art World.

The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (RBSA) is an artist-led charity which supports artists and promotes engagement with the visual arts through a range of inclusive activities: exhibitions, workshops and demonstrations.  The Society owns and runs its own exhibition venue, the RBSA Gallery, located just off St Paul's Square, near Birmingham's historic jewellery quarter and a short walk from the city centre.
